St. Louis, MO – The U.S. Attorney's office says Margaret Ann Allen pleaded guilty last week to theft in federal court. Authorities say the 56-year-old Allen took more than $23,000 dollars from two police department accounts. They say she used the money to gamble and buy things like alcohol and lottery tickets. Allen faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. She is scheduled to be sentenced on September 3.
St. Louis, MO. – Missouri lawmakers have one week left in their spring session, and two top Republicans are touring the state to call on Governor Bob Holden to sign the budget that was sent to him last week.
House Speaker Catherine Hanaway and Senate President pro tem Peter Kinder were in St. Louis Sunday. Kinder says spending levels that lawmakers passed are only 2% below what Holden proposed in his budget plan.
Affton, MO. – School at Cor Jesu Academy in suburban St. Louis will start Monday morning with a prayer service to remember a student who died this weekend.
Katie Brooks was a junior; she died of severe head injuries Saturday during a field trip to the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. She lost her balance while sliding down a banister, and fell. The death has been ruled an accident.
She had been an honor roll student and school leader who had been a campus minister and led charity activities.
