Jefferson City, Mo. – Missouri lawmakers are making gestures to help the state save a little money.
The House yesterday rejected pay raises for lawmakers. The Senate's President Pro Tem, Peter Kinder, says the state should stop paying for travel by Senators to various out-of-state conferences; a move that would save about $80,000.
St. Louis, MO – St. Louis' Bi-State Development Agency is changing its name. Beginning February 1st, it will simply be known as Metro .
The bus, van and light rail operator says the new name will better describe what the agency is and what it does. It says it's the final step in a process that began with the debut of Metrolink ten years ago. Services, rates and routes will not be affected by the name change.
Barksdale Air Force Base, La. – A military hearing is over for two Illinois fighter pilots. Former St. Louisan Harry Schmidt and William Umbach are charged with the accidental bombing of Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan.
St. Louis, MO – Two suspects are in custody after a lengthy standoff at a check-cashing business on the south side of St. Louis. Names of the men have not been released. They were taken into custody at around 2 pm.
