St. Louis, MO – President Bush is urging Congress to immediately enact a tax relief plan that's scheduled to take effect in a few years. Speaking Wednesday at J.S. Logistics, a small trucking business in south St. Louis, the president said that plan will lower some taxes by five percent, eliminate parts of the marriage penalty and increase the child tax credit from $600 to $1,000.
Mr. Bush says though federal lawmakers have already approved these changes, they won't take effect until 2006.
Mascoutah, IL – MidAmerica Airport in Mascoutah, Ill. might soon have another tenant. The airport's director told a St. Clair County Committee last night that Air Florida Airways wants to make MidAmerica its world headquarters and operational hub.
The company plans to offer passenger, charter, and cargo flights, with a start date of June First. The company is still buying airplanes for operations, but the county committee last night approved millions in tax breaks for Air Florida.
St. Louis, MO – A construction worker fell to his death today while working on the interior roof of the Edward Jones Dome.
Authorities say 45-year-old Michael Holt of St. Louis fell from the upper interior roof of the dome while he was working on equipment that reduces echoes. He fell 200 feet onto the concrete floor and died at the scene. Holt was a contracted worker with the stage hands union and was among several people working on the interior.
