St. Louis, MO – Nurses at St. Louis Children's Hospital will have another shot at forming a union. The National Labor Relations board ruled this week the 850 nurses could vote on whether to organize. A similar effort failed at the hospital in 2000. Joe Sanders is a registered nurse at Children's who says the nurses are not feeling as afraid.
St. Louis, MO – Missouri Democrats say they're excited about Congressman Dick Gephardt's plans for a second run for President in 14 years. Gephardt will reportedly announce an exploratory committee soon.
Former Senator Thomas Eagleton predicts Gephardt will win the Iowa caucuses and become the frontrunner (Gephardt ran for President in 1988 and narrowly won the Iowa caucuses that year).
Eagleton also predicts the primary will be among Gephardt, Senator Joe Lieberman of Connecticut and Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts.
East St. Louis, IL – East St. Louis City Manager Harvey Henderson has been dead since August, but his family says they still don't know how he died.
His body was found under the Poplar Street Bridge with twice the legal limit of alcohol. The Illinois State Police called the death an accident. But Henderson's cousin, Annie Thompson, believes he was murdered. She wants the FBI and US Attorney to get involved.
