St. Louis, MO – The damages award was ordered by abritrators in a lease dispute involving property in Kimmswick, Missouri. Isle of Capri contends the arbitrators, who were appointed by the American Arbitration Association were biased, and that their decision was capricious. Isle of Capri is suing in the U.S. District Court in St. Louis.
Bloomington-Normal, IL – The meeting featured former Illinois senators Paul Simon and Adlai Stevenson III as well as former governor Jim Edgar. Edgar says closing business loopholes and even raising some fees won't be enough to bridge the current $1 billion budget gap. He adds an income tax hike would fill the hole, but it would be difficult to pass because of governor-elect Rod Blagojevich's campaign promise not to raise taxes.
St. Louis, MO – Elam King with the Prince Hall Family Support Center says such a meeting in the Penrose-O'Fallon neighborhood in north St. Louis is important because many people don't know how the system works. King says the community will have a chance to tell leaders what they expect from that and offer ideas for improvement.
