A State House committee’s plan to redraw Missouri’s congressional districts is drawing fire from both urban and rural residents and from both political parties.

Judge: police must turn over some records in crime scene photo investigation

Crime scene tape blocked off the area involved in a March 8 shootout in St. Louis. A cell phone photo of the body of Carlos Boles, the man killed in the shootout, is the subject of an investigation.

A federal judge has ruled that four St. Louis police officers must turn over some personal cell phone records as part of the department's investigation into who forwarded the photo of a man killed in a shootout with law enforcement earlier this month.

Extended unemployment benefits ending this weekend for Missourians

Extended unemployment benefits will end this Saturday for thousands of Missourians after the state Senate failed to reauthorize participation in a federal program.

St. Louis County senator Jim Lembke led the effort to block the 20-week extension of federal unemployment benefits, filibustering the legislation along with three other Republican senators.

Lembke said he did so in order to send a message to Washington that the federal government needs to rein in its spending.

To tax or not to tax? A discussion of Proposition E in St. Louis

Next Tuesday, St. Louis City voters will vote on Proposition E.  If the proposition passes, the city will retain its 1 percent earnings tax.  If the proposition fails, the tax will be phased out over the next ten years.  Supporters and critics of the earnings tax disagree on many things, including how the tax affects the economic vitality of the city and how prominently the tax figures into people’s decisions to live or work in St. Louis.  But many agree on this: no replacement for the earnings tax is in place and a transition to any combination of alternatives could prove painful.
