St. Louis, MO – The seven-count indictment charges that employees of Pyro Products, Inc. and its sister company, Next F-X Inc. tampered with explosion scenes in which two people were killed and five others injured. Springfield, ILL. – Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich said Sunday he's releasing $750,000 for a World War II memorial in Springfield.
The memorial will join current memorials for those who fought in the Korean and Vietnam Wars already at Oak Ridge Cemetary, on the city's north side.
The governor made the announcement during Veteran's Day at the Illinois State Fair. He released about $600,000 earlier this year. He had been blocking the money, though, because it came from the pool of money used for pork projects.
St. Louis, MO – A series of carjackings this weekend has St. Louis Police Chief Joe Mokwa promising a task force to look into the matter.
Police say at least some of the violence this weekend was related. One man was shot dead while walking near a park with his wife; the suspects were driving an SUV believed to have been carjacked the night before.
A family from Colorado was shot at when would-be carjackers tried to get their SUV on Interstate 70.
Mokwa says the task force will also look into car break-ins and thefts.
St. Louis, MO – The Cardinals beat the Braves 3-2 Sunday night, thanks to back-to-back homers in the eighth from Eduardo Perez and Albert Pujols.
But a play in the fifth inning made history. Cards' pitcher Woody Williams hit into just the 12th unassisted triple play in baseball history.
With runners on first and second, Braves Shortstop Rafael Furcal caught a line drive, stepped on second base to retire the runner who had jumped off second, then tagged out Orlando Palmeiro, who was running from first.
St. Louis, Mo. – Two men are in St. Louis police custody following a rash of carjackings over the weekend that killed one person and injured three others.
Police chief Joe Mokwa says police have identified and are searching for two other men from the suspects' same neighborhood. Police will seek murder, robbery and assault charges against the two suspects. Mokwa says the men have a history of past offenses.
