Adam Allington

Adam grew up on a cherry farm in northern, Michigan.  He holds a BA in economics from Kalamazoo College.  Adam's radio career began in 2003 at the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies in Portland, Maine. He went on to cut his teeth filing stories for Maine Public Radio. Before coming to St. Louis Public Radio in 2006 Adam was was an international journalism fellow at Deutsche Welle in Bonn, Germany.  He has regularly files features for a variety of shows and networks including NPR, PRI, Marketplace and the BBC. He was awarded a prestigious Knight-Wallace Journalism Fellowship for the 2011-2012 academic year.

'Arch Tax' Approved By St. Louis Board Of Aldermen

A tax to generate funds to improve the Gateway Arch, as well regional parks and trails took a step forward in the St. Louis Board of Aldermen on Friday.

The so-called “Arch Tax” creates a 3/16th cent sales tax.  If approved by voters in St. Louis City and County the tax would raise $120 million for the Arch grounds.

It would also raise about $600 million for city and county parks as well as the Great Rivers Greenway park and trail district.

USS Inaugural To Finally Emerge From Her Watery Grave

The wreckage of the USS Inaugural is set to finally be cut up and hauled away after nearly 20 years of being stuck on the bottom of the Mississippi River, south of downtown St. Louis.

Low water on the river has left the World War II Minesweeper nearly high and dry for the first time since it was ripped from its mooring during the 1993 flood.

Audit Finds Red Flags At St. Louis County Children's Fund

An internal audit of an organization providing children’s services in St. Louis County has turned up a list of serious problems.

The audit of the $81 million St. Louis County Children's Service Fund details questionable relationships between the fund’s former director and some of its consultants.

The fund’s former Director Kate Tansey abruptly left the job last October. 

The audit also details issues such as misuse of purchasing cards by several employees.

Ground Broken On New Boone Bridge

The selected design for the new I-64 Daniel Boone Missouri River bridge

Ground was broken Thursday on the new Daniel Boone Bridge just west of Chesterfield.

The $111 million project will replace a 75-year-old span over the Missouri River and link St. Louis and St. Charles Counties.

MoDOT District Engineer Ed Hassinger says the bridge is the final project to make I-64 a true, interstate-quality, highway.
