Former Missouri Republican Party Chairwoman Ann Wagner has taken a step toward a run for Congress.

Wagner said Tuesday that she has set up an exploratory committee for a potential campaign in the 2nd Congressional District in suburban St. Louis. Wagner says her move is based on the likelihood that the 2nd District will be an open seat. The incumbent, Republican U.S. Rep. Todd Akin, has been considering a challenge to Democratic U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill.

After six months of delays, and just days before the second anniversary of the crime, testimony began this morning in the triple murder trial of Christopher Coleman.

Coleman is charged with strangling his wife Sheri and their two young sons early on the morning of May 5, 2009, allegedly so he could marry his mistress - a high school friend of Sheri's - without running afoul of his employer's no-divorce policy. Coleman was the chief of security for Joyce Meyer Ministries at the time of the murders.

Coleman has pleaded not guilty to the murders, and remains jailed in Monroe County without bond. Prosecutor Kris Reitz is seeking the death penalty.

In an opening statement about 30 minutes, Reitz promised a comprehensive case involving nearly 40 witnesses. "This case is too important to leave anything out," he said, speaking directly to the jury of 10 women and two men. (Four alternates are all male.) "When all the evidence is in, I will ask you to find Chris Coleman guilty beyond a reasonable doubt."

Opening Statements Begin Today in Christopher Coleman Trial

Area residents started to line-up early this morning outside the Monroe County courthouse to watch the start of the case. The crime took place nearly 2 years ago. Prosecutors allege that Coleman, who once handled security for the Joyce Meyer Ministries, killed his wife Sheri and their sons Garrett and Gavin to be with a mistress. That woman, Tara Lintz, has been ordered to testify and a deposition from Joyce Meyer will also be part of the prosecutor's case.

Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster has released information to help those recovering avoid a "storm chasers" scam

Metro Transit is providing access to public transit to St. Louis County residents whose vehicles are buried under debris.  Metro Transit travels the affected communities and will help tornado victims get  to where they need to go via MetroBus and MetroLink. For more information, see this link.

To report power outages to Ameren, call 1-800-552-7583 (and you can see current listings of power outages).

Red Cross shelter and assistance information (Update: Maryland Heights shelter closing, supplies still available in Dellwood).

American Red Cross will be offering clean-up items from a fixed location at the Dellwood Recreation Center. See this link for more information.

Catholic Charities is accepting donations and providing assistance as well: call 314-367-5500

Missourians who need disaster information, shelter information or referrals are urged to call 211. The 211 service number is now available for most areas in Missouri. In areas where the 211 number is not operational, citizens can call 800-427-4626. 

People in St. Louis County who need assistance or want to volunteer can call 314-615-5000.
