IL Gov. Quinn grants 85 clemency petitions

Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn granted 85 clemency petitions and denied 189 others in the latest round of action to clear a backlog of cases left by his predecessor, ousted former Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

Quinn granted pardons and expunged convictions in most of the cases Friday that included offenses from burglary and drug charges to armed robbery and reckless discharge of a firearm.

This latest action brings the number of clemency petitions Quinn has granted to 467. He has denied 728 other petitions.

Former St. Louis County Planning Commission chair indicted

The former chairman of the St. Louis County Planning Commission has been indicted on a charge of federal bank fraud, according to a press release from the Eastern District of Missouri division of the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Douglas Morgan, 65, from Chesterfield, could face a maximum penalty of up to 30 years in prison and/or fines up to $1,000,000 if convicted.

Mo. House OKs another proposed redistricting map

The congressional district map adopted as an amendment to legislation today by the Missouri House of Representatives.

Missouri House members have voted to approve another congressional redistricting proposal just a few hours after negotiations over a map broke down with senators.

The House endorsed another map by voice-vote on Friday. House supporters say it was designed to address a couple senators' concerns over other redistricting proposals.

Two Inmates Escape from St. Louis Justice Center

St. Louis police continue to search for two jail inmates that escaped from the St. Louis Justice Center located at 200 S. Tucker Blvd this morning. Police say 34-year-old Vernon Collins and 33-year-old David White escaped shortly before 7 a.m. and are wearing white t-shirts and shorts and white tennis shoes.

Auditor Schweich raises concerns over Mo. Gov. Nixon's travel costs

Another auditor is criticizing Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon's administration for billing a state agency over travel costs.

The audit released Thursday by Republican Auditor Tom Schweich found $1,630 was charged to the Division of Workforce Development, in the Department of Economic Development. Nixon and a labor department official promoted a program administered by the workforce division. The audit said documents for the flight showed no division staff came along.
