The deal is designed to exploit growing demand for high-priced coal used to manufacture steel. Arch says the combined companies would be the nation's second largest supplier of metallurgical coal.
Illinois Legislators Return to Springfield
When Illinois legislators return to the Capitol Monday afternoon, it could be the beginning of the end. The General Assembly is scheduled to meet daily through the end of this month, when they're supposed to adjourn.
Legislation lowering the minimum age for getting concealed gun permits in Missouri heads to the governor's desk.
Lawmakers gave final approval Friday to the bill reducing the minimum age to 21 from the current 23.
Missouri enacted its concealed-carry law in 2003 after legislators overrode a veto by then-Gov. Bob Holden.
The National Rifle Association says no other state with a concealed-carry law sets the minimum age at 23.
The Illinois Senate overrode Gov. Pat Quinn's request to delay implementation of a new law that sets provisions for gubernatorial appointments.
The Senate overrode the veto without opposition Friday. The House must override it for it to become law.
The law says the Senate must review temporary appointees and people serving after their terms end or they will lose their jobs.
Previously temporary appointees could serve indefinitely.
