Almost exactly a year ago, the state of Missouri shuttered the emergency room at the Metropolitan St. Louis Psychiatric Center because of cost overruns.

Now, officials with BJC and SSM - two of the largest health care systems in the state - say by the end of October, they hope to replace at least some of that capacity.

Thirteen people have submitted applications to fill a soon-to-be-open seat on the Missouri Supreme Court.

The three women and 10 men are vying for the seat of Judge Michael Wolff, who will retire August 11th. They are:

Seventy-three dogs rescued from a breeder in southwest Missouri today are now in the care of the Humane Society of Missouri in St. Louis. The dogs are the first seized under Missouri's new Canine Cruelty Prevention Act.

Attorney General Chris Koster filed suit against the kennel, owned by Linda Brisco, in June. He calls it a good first step toward changing Missouri's reputation as the "puppy mill capital" of the country.

Koster says the new law, a compromise on the voter initiative known as Proposition B, gives his office more tools to help the dogs.

The sign, or mural, depending on whom you ask, has been at the center of a case regarding the constitutionality of the city of St. Louis's sign ordinance. Today, a ruling has been issued in the case.

A replacement for the oldest interstate bridge in the St. Louis region has gotten the green light from the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission.

The Commission this morning approved $120 million for a new westbound Daniel Boone Bridge, which carries traffic on Highway 40 across the Missouri River. The westbound span was built in the 1930s and needs constant maintenance.
