12th Congressional District Candidates Debate

The three candidates for Illinois’ 12 th congressional district squared off in their only televised debate last Thursday night - and all agree more needs to be done to help the economy.

Democratic challenger says he’d be the best advocate for southern Illinois – and would work to bring jobs back to the region.

“We have to work together. We have to have bipartisan support if we’re going to have common-sense legislation to move the economy forward.”

Republican incumbent says he’s dedicated his career to working for the people of southern Illinois – and routinely takes votes that might anger some if they’re in the district’s best interest.

“To achieve what we need to achieve, and to make sure that my votes – whether they line up with my party or whether they line up with the unions – are taken with my constituents in southern Illinois being number one.”

The Green Party’s says corporations have too much control in politics and in the economy. She says the people should have more power in decision making.

“The whole point of having a government that works for the people – and not the corporations – is that we can choose, as a democracy, what kind of work we want our people to do.”
