14th Street Gallery Finds New Old North St. Louis Location — For Now

The ousted 14th Street Artist Community Gallery has found a new home, just steps away from its former space and still on 14th Street.

Gallery owners have moved two doors down and across one street to 2607/09 14th St. in Old North St. Louis. The gallery, run by William Burton and Robert Ketchens, will retain its name. They plan a grand re-opening in July.

This past May, the gallery vacated the old space after a disagreement with the owner, as detailed in this St. Louis Public Radio story about the organization and its outreach.

Burton said the new spot offers more square footage for exhibitions and their Raw Canvas education program. While 14th Street charges for Raw Canvas classes, Burton and Ketchens also offer free services to young artists, including instruction, materials and help with their portfolios.

A nonprofit called Rise, formerly the Regional Housing and Community Development Alliance, is the property manager for the new space. Their agreement only requires the gallery to pay for heating and cooling. Should Rise find a long-term tenant, 14th Street Gallery will have to begin paying rent. If that's not possible, the gallery will have 30 days to find another new location.
