St. Louis, MO –

Conservationists and sportsmen in Missouri are celebrating the anniversary of an historic public vote. Twenty-five years ago Friday, residents in east-central Missouri voted against a proposal from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to dam the Meramec River. KWMU's Bill Raack spoke with the chairman of the effort to oppose the plan, Jerry Sugarman of St. Louis. Sugarman says many public officials and chambers of commerce, including those in St. Louis, favored the Meramec Dam proposal.

Note: There will be a party Friday night at the Powder Valley Conservation Center in Kirkwood to commemorate the anniversary of the vote.
