St. Louis, MO – The great flood of '93 was among the region's worst natural disasters, but tornadoes have proven far more deadly.
Fifty years ago tomorrow a twister formed in west St. Louis County and tore its way toward the Mississippi River.

It struck early, while St. Louis slept. And with little warning it killed 21 people and damaged two-thousand buildings.
National Weather Service meteorologist Jim Kramper told KWMU's Matt Sepic forecasting was unsophisticated in 1959, and nobody issued a warning.
