Jefferson City, MO – A federal judge has blocked a new Missouri law that would have required a 24-hour waiting period for abortions. Senior U-S District Judge Scott O. Wright issued a temporary restraining order today against the law, which had been scheduled to take effect tomorrow.
He said Planned Parenthood demonstrated a probability of success with its lawsuit. The abortion provider claims the law fails to give doctors fair warning of what conduct is prohibited and encourages arbitrary enforcement.
The law requires physicians to wait 24 hours to perform abortions after conferring with women about various risk factors, which the lawsuit claims are unconstitutionally vague.
