Administration Official Talks With Local Manufacturers

By Kevin Lavery, KWMU

St. Louis, MO – Lash says though the economy is moving out of the nearly 35-month long recession, manufacturing is experiencing a jobless recovery. Lash is touring the country asking manufacturing executives what they need to ensure their ability to compete globally. He says President Bush wants to institute a permanent tax credit for research and development.

"You need to have an environment where people see the rate of return will be there before they make the capital investment they need to promote their manufacturing sector," Lash said.

He added that since the start of the recession, Missouri has lost more manufacturing jobs than any other state.
