Administrative law judges' firings blocked

By Marshall Griffin, KWMU

Jefferson City, MO – A Cole County judge has blocked the firings of three administrative law judges who hear workers' compensation cases in Missouri.

Circuit Judge Jon Beetem issued a permanent injunction, blocking the Nixon Administration from firing judges Henry Herschel, Matthew Murphy and John Tackes.

John Commerford is their attorney.

"These administrative law judges get the attorneys' fees that they've had to expend reimbursed to them...no retaliation, no moving them from one office where they currently work to another," Commerford said.

The Nixon Administration has stated that the judges were let go due to budget cuts.

A spokesperson for the Department of Labor says they'll review the ruling, and that a decision to appeal hasn't been made yet.
