Airport-area Land to be Sold

By Kevin Lavery, KWMU

St. Louis – Six hundred acres of undeveloped land near Lambert Airport will go on sale next week. It's part of an effort to bring more economic opportunity to north St. Louis County.

On Monday, the county will begin soliciting proposals to develop the tract just east of the airport for commercial and industrial use.

St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley says its location near the airport, interstates and light rail make the land a highly attractive investment. But he says some strategy must go into its planning.

"We just can't put any business there," Dooley said "We want business that's going to really make an economic impact in our area as far as providing goods and services. So it's going to be important that we pick the right developers and sub-developers to come to our area."

Proposals from businesses will be due September 22.
