AmerenUE seeks federal stimulus funds

By Associated Press

St. Louis, MO – The utility company AmerenUE is seeking $140 million in federal stimulus money, hoping to get funding to improve reliability of electrical service for its Missouri customers.

The St. Louis-based company says most of the money would be used to modernize delivery systems. AmerenUE officials say it would help avoid service disruptions and improve outage restoration times.

Part of the request would also fund a project giving homeowners small electronic devices that could pull data directly from the meter, allowing them to view electric usage almost as quickly as it is consumed.
