St. Louis – American Airlines announced yesterday it would reduce its workforce by an additional 1,100 flight attendants, including 400 in St. Louis.
A company spokesman says voluntary options like job sharing and leaves of absence might prevent some job cuts.
Any layoffs would take effect February First.
Spokesman Todd Burke says the window to take the options will begin December eleventh and close January seventh. After that American will have a clearer idea of how many flight attendants will be laid off.
Yesterday the company notified the Association of Professional Flight Attendants, the union representing American flight attendants.
On the APFA hotline spokesman George Price says in this round of reductions only the most junior 400 flight attendants will be
subject to layoffs.
