American Workers Voting on Concessions

St. Louis, Mo. – Three airline workers' unions will decide Monday and Tuesday whether to accept a package of concessions from American Airlines.

Members of the Association of Professional Flight Attendants must cast their telephone votes by 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Union spokeswoman Liz Geiss says even if flight attendants accept the concessions, there will be many layoffs nationwide.

"We have been told by the company to anticipate approximately 2300 to 2400 furloughs, or layoffs," she said.

1,700 of those will be in St. Louis. If American goes bankrupt Geiss says even more flight attendants will lose their jobs.

Pilots and ground workers must cast ballots by Monday afternoon; flight attendants have until Tuesday to vote.

Even if pilots accept the concessions, 700 based in St. Louis will lose their jobs.
