Chenoa, IL – Amtrak has suspended train service between St. Louis and Chicago because of a leaning grain elevator in Chenoa, Ill.
Workers are trying to remove 200,000 bushels of corn from the elevator. One train this morning has already been canceled. Amtrak hopes other trains today will run.
Union Pacific Railroad spokesman Mark Davis says the tracks were closed about 11:15 yesterday morning after workers noticed the grain elevator was in poor condition and leaning toward the tracks.
Davis says freight train traffic between the two cities has not been stopped, and that repairs on the bin could take about 24 hours.
