St. Louis – A St. Louis non-profit group is launching a public fundraising campaign to support programs at the Gateway Arch.

The Jefferson National Parks Association is sponsoring a special Missouri state license plate featuring an image of the arch and the slogan, "Gateway to the West."

Peggy O'Dell is the superintendent of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial, which works in partnership with the group.

"The National Park Service pays all of the base expenses of having the museum open and the rangers, but the Arch Fund and Jefferson National Parks Association supplements that so that we can have specific education programs for school groups and we can do special events at the Old Courthouse and at the Arch," O'Dell said."

The issuance of the license plates comes as the National Park Service prepares to mark the 40th anniversary of the completion of the Gateway Arch.
