Attorneys general to meet with Craigslist

By Maria Altman/Rachel Lippmann, KWMU

St. Louis, MO. – State attorneys general from Missouri, Illinois, and Connecticut are taking part in negotiations with Craigslist Tuesday in an effort to eliminate ads for what they say is prostitution.

The three states are representing a group of attorneys general from across the U.S.

Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster says last year Craigslist agreed to let consumers flag ads that appeared to be illegal. He says that has not worked.

"Craigslist is turning a blind eye to the blatancy of the advertisement. They have crossed the line, and they need to put in place some kind of safeguards that will clean up this site," Koster said.

Koster says Craigslist should either come up with software to pull ads for illegal sexual activities or to pull down the erotic services section of the website altogether.
