Audit Cites Cost-Shifting by Governor's Office

Jefferson City, MO – A state audit says the governor's office
is not bearing the full cost of its operations, but instead is having state agencies pick up part of the tab.

State Auditor Claire McCaskill says other agencies are paying part of the salaries for people who work in the governor's office. She says other agencies also have been billed for some plane trips
that included Governor Holden.

Holden's office says it is trying to operate efficiently. And the practice of billing agencies has existed for quite some time.

McCaskill is considering whether to challenge Holden in next year's Democratic primary for governor.

Spokespeople for both the auditor and governor say the audit had nothing to do with politics.
