Audit Raises Concerns About State Inspections

By AP/KWMU

Jefferson City, MO – A new state audit in Missouri says
thousands of elevators, boilers and amusement rides have never been inspected by state safety officials.

State Auditor Claire McCaskill's office finds that in all cases, the Division of Fire Safety should establish procedures to locate the devices and have them inspected and registered.

The division says budget cuts have left it short-staffed and ill-equipped to meet all the criteria set out in the audit.
