Audit Says School Funding Still Not Equitable

By AP/KWMU

Jefferson City, MO – State Auditor Claire McCaskill is giving
Missouri's school funding system a failing grade.

In an audit released today, McCaskill says the way Missouri distributes funding to schools is less equitable now than it was
when lawmakers rewrote the funding formula a decade ago.

She gave the funding system a grade of "F."

McCaskill says funding is not being distributed fairly between wealthy districts and poorer districts, which is what the current formula was designed to do.

She also says that the funding formula is too complex and many lawmakers simply don't understand it.
