Bartender shot and killed downtown

By AP/KWMU

St. Louis – A bartender at a popular downtown St. Louis tavern was shot and killed Monday night.

It happened at about 11:45 p.m. at Maggie O'Brien's on Market Street. Police said two men walked in and shot a male bartender. He died at a hospital several hours later.

Police said it was a robbery attempt. No suspects are in custody, and it's not clear if the men got away with any money.

Minutes after the incident at the bar, a man who had been shot in the chest was dropped off at a hospital by another man, who then fled. That shooting victim also died.

Police spokeswoman Erica Van Ross said investigators are looking into whether the man shot in the chest and the man who dropped him off were the robbers.

Names of the victims have not been released.
