Bi-state region deals with heat, humidity

By Bill Raack, KWMU

St. Louis, MO – The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat advisory for the city of St. Louis and several surrounding counties in Missouri and Illinois until 7:00 p.m. Friday.

Temperatures in the upper 90's could combine with very humid air to produce afternoon heat index values around 105 degrees. Thursday was the hottest day of the year so far.

Health officials are advising people to avoid prolonged work outdoors. And the elderly, young children and those at risk for heat-related illness should take precautions, too.

To find a cooling site, call the United Way Greater St. Louis Referral Line at 211.
