St. Louis, MO – Democrats say their track record since taking control of Congress and the White House will work in their favor in the upcoming mid-term elections.
DNC committee members met for the final day of their summer meeting in St. Louis on Friday.
The featured speaker of the day, Vice President Joe Biden, said the choice between Democrats and Republicans in the upcoming election is clearer than ever before.
"This aint your father's Republican Party, this is the Republican Tea Party," said Biden. "And as they [voters] focus on the alternative, what they're going to find out is, the choices are pretty stark."
Biden said the GOP is offering a combination of the policies of the past combined with what he called "a new set of draconian ideas."
Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius urged Democrats to respond aggressively to Republican criticism and those seeking a return to Bush-era policies.
"We need to mobilize our army once again," said Sebelius. "We've won some impressive battles in the last 18 months, but we still haven't won this war. We can't give up, we won't go back and we should never retreat."
Interestingly, while many speakers made references to politicians such as Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, as well as Republicans such as John Boehner and Rand Paul, not a single reference was paid to Missouri's Democratic candidate for Senate, Robin Carnahan.
