Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell will be in town Tuesday afternoon to visit the grounds of the Gateway Arch and check out the CityArchRiver project.

The project includes the long-awaited “lid” over the interstate highway section that now cuts off the Arch from the rest of downtown, including the historic Old Courthouse. The aim is to create a picturesque greenway.

The project is being funded through a regional and state partnership involving several agencies, as well as money collected from the new Arch/park sales tax approved by voters last year.

Biden’s stop appears to be part of a Midwest tour that focuses on construction projects and the importance of improving the nation’s infrastructure. On Wednesday, for example, he is to be in Cleveland to highlight work on the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority Rail Complex.
