Blagojevich says prosecution proved his innocence

By AP/St. Louis Public Radio

Chicago – Rod Blagojevich says the prosecution in his corruption trial proved that he did nothing wrong.

He spoke after his defense rested Wednesday without calling any witnesses, including the ousted Illinois governor himself.

Blagojevich says the government showed "that I never took a corrupt dollar, not a corrupt dime, not a corrupt nickel, not a corrupt penny."

He had said often that he wanted to testify. Blagojevich has pleaded not guilty to charges including trying to sell an appointment to President Barack Obama's old Senate seat and to scheming to launch a racketeering operation in the governor's
office.

Blagojevich says he learned lot of lessons from the experience - perhaps the biggest that he talks too much.
