Springfield, Ill – Anyone who tries to bribe a driving school instructor or commercial trucking company to get an Illinois drivers license will face the possibility of a prison sentence beginning next year.
Governor Rod Blagojevich signed a bill Wednesday that extends the felony beyond state-employed license examiners to anyone else who is authorized to test drivers. That includes instructors at private schools or trucking companies that administer commercial driving tests.
It also makes it a felony for any driving instructor to take a bribe.
The maximum punishment is three to seven years in prison and a fine up to $25,000.
The new law also will allow a 120-day suspension of the drivers license or application for license of anyone caught offering a bribe, however small.
