Blunt's potential challengers comment on his U.S. Senate bid

By Marshall Griffin, KWMU

Jefferson City, MO – Roy Blunt's potential challengers in next year's Missouri U.S. Senate race have been bombarded with questions today.

Secretary of State and Democratic candidate Robin Carnahan told a group of visiting reporters in Jefferson City that the Republican congressman from Springfield should take some responsibility for the current economic crisis.

"Representative Blunt, who's been in Washington a long time, will have some things to answer for...he's been in leadership at a time when our country has gotten into a pretty big financial mess," Carnahan said.

Lt. Governor Peter Kinder later addressed the same group of reporters and was asked if he would endorse Roy Blunt.

"Is he making an announcement today?," Kinder joked as he left the room to laughter and applause.

Kinder has been mentioned as a possible GOP contender for the Senate seat being vacated in 2010 by Kit Bond.
