New York, NY – The state sent 12 more delegates than in 2000 because President George W. Bush won the state four years ago.

On the convention's opening day, Sen. Kit Bond and state House Speaker Catherine Hanaway both addressed delegates on the floor.

Hanaway said when President Bush cut taxes, Missouri Democratic Governor Bob Holden attempted to raise them:

But thanks to the Republican-led, Bush-won majority, the Missouri General Assembly said no," Hanaway said. "Because just like President Bush, we in Missouri believe that all Americans know better than government how to spend their hard-earned money.

Another prominent Missourian at the convention is Ann Wagner, who chairs the state GOP and co-chairs the Republican National Committee.
