Washington, D.C. – Senator Kit Bond will undergo hip replacement surgery later this week.
Bond, who is 64, has degenerative arthritis in his left hip.
Spokesman Ernie Blazar says the procedure will take place Friday at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. Bond expects to be released Sunday and will use crutches for a week.
Bond was first elected senator in 1986, and is expected to seek a fourth term next year.
