Botanical Garden Helps Catalog Species in Vietnam

By Matt Sepic, KWMU

St. Louis, MO –

You might think every plant and animal species on the planet has long since been given a Latin name and catalogued for posterity. Not so. In Viet Nam, biological research fell by the wayside for much of the 20th Century. But it's now bouncing back.

Researchers there are busy discovering and naming new plants and animals at a lighting pace. KWMU's Matt Sepic spoke with one of them, Jack Regalado, who for the last two years has been on assignment for the Missouri Botanical Garden.

Regalado says his team has made quite a few interesting finds.

Regalado was recently back in St. Louis; he returns to Viet Nam Tuesday.
