St. Louis – An off-duty St. Louis firefighter was shot and wounded Wednesday when he interrupted a burglary at his home.
Fire Chief Dennis Jenkerson said Ernest Strong surprised the burglars when he arrived home after having lunch with his wife.
Police said Strong was shot four times in the chest and abdomen. He was rushed to a hospital and was in critical condition after undergoing surgery.
Police said two people matching the descriptions of the burglars had been taken into custody and were being questioned.
Police are looking for a third suspect.
