Bush Declares Disaster Areas in Kansas, Missouri

Pierce City, Mo – President Bush has declared disaster areas in parts in of Kansas and Missouri as a result of Sunday's killer tornadoes.

That announcement today from Federal Emergency Management Agency head Michael Brown. He is visiting both states today, to see the damage first-hand, and announced the declaration in Pierce City,
Missouri.

The declaration clears the way for federal emergency assistance to the affected counties. It covers seven Kansas counties and 39 in Missouri.

Missouri Senator Kit Bond says as much as $10,000 will be immediately available to families and individuals who
suffered injury or damage in the storms.

He says 14 of the 39 Missouri counties will be eligible for additional aid for debris removal, cleanup and repair of public buildings and other recovery assistance.
