St. Louis – The Bush campaign is trying to counter the momentum of the Democratic National Convention with stops in key battleground states. Friday, President Bush spoke at a rally in Springfield.

Mr. Bush used his appearance in Springfield to roll out a new stump speech that echoes the theme that America is "turning the corner and we're not turning back."

The president emphasized more individual control over health insurance, less dependence on foreign energy, and a continued commitment to fighting the war on terror.

"If America shows uncertainty and weakness in this decade, the world will drift towards tragedy," Bush said. "This will not happen on my watch."

As a swing state, Missouri is considered a must-win for the president.

Two protesters at the event were cited after refusing to move to a designated area.

Police say they also held a Springfield woman who was turned away from the stadium and allegedly punched a ticket-taker in the chest.

Democratic nominee John Kerry will visit four cities in Missouri on Thursday.
