St. Louis, MO – A federal grand jury on Thursday indicted a 31-year-old Canadian man who is accused of stealing a single-engine Cessna from his Ontario flight club in April and landing it seven hours later in Ellsinore, Mo., about 165 miles east of Springfield.
Adam Dylan Leon faces three federal felonies: interstate transportation of a stolen airplane, importation of a stolen aircraft, and illegal entry into the United States.
A judge earlier Thursday ruled he was competent to stand trial. Leon apparently made the flight in an effort to get shot down by fighter jets that were scrambled in response to the unknown aircraft. Prosecutors said in April that Leon had no known connections to any terrorist groups.
