Carnahan calls for post-primary debates in Mo. Senate race

By Associated Press

Jefferson City, MO – Missouri's primary hasn't happened yet, but Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Robin Carnahan is already challenging her potential general election opponents to three debates.

Carnahan, Missouri's secretary of state, said Thursday that she sent letters to all the Republican, Libertarian and Constitution party candidates challenging them to post-primary debates.

Although she is considered the front-runner for the Democratic party, Carnahan must survive her own August 3rd primary to make good on her challenge.

The leading Republican candidate, Congressman Roy Blunt, challenged Carnahan to three televised forums in February 2009.

A Carnahan spokesman said then that Blunt should worry about his own primary first.
