This article first appeared in the St. Louis Beacon, Jan. 17, 2012 - Need a little afternoon break?
We suggest a 2 p.m. visit to cardinals.com or MLB.com to watch live online coverage of our favorite Boys of Summer -- Freese, Berk, Carp -- meeting President Barack Obama at the White House.
The team visit to meet the president is a longstanding tradition for World Series champs -- and could be just the ticket today for St. Louisans still in sleepwalking mode after those early a.m. weather theatrics that hammered the region. Nothing can get the adrenaline flowing faster for Redbird fans than talk of last fall's Wild Card race.
Of course, this might have been just a little sweeter for Cards fans if Chicagoan Obama rooted for the Cubs instead of the White Sox.
And, in case you're wondering, retired manager Tony La Russa will not make the trip, according to the team, and neither will the Man-Who-Used-To-Be-No. 5 for the Cardinals.
