Charter Reformers Turn In Petition

By Bill Raack, KWMU

St. Louis – Advocates of charter reform in the city of St. Louis turned in signatures Thursday to put four proposals on the ballot this fall.

The group, Citizens for Home Rule, says it gathered more than 25,000 signatures on each of the four petitions. Just under 20,000 valid signatures are required.

The proposals would reorganize city government, reduce the number of aldermen, and give more power to the mayor.

The board of elections must now certify the petitions to make certain the signatures are valid.
