Children's Hospital Nurses Will Vote on Unionizing

By T. Weber, KWMU

St. Louis, MO – Nurses at St. Louis Children's Hospital will have another shot at forming a union. The National Labor Relations board ruled this week the 850 nurses could vote on whether to organize. A similar effort failed at the hospital in 2000. Joe Sanders is a registered nurse at Children's who says the nurses are not feeling as afraid.

Children's wanted the union to also include another 80 nurses who work at other satellite offices, but Sanders says those workers would not have had the same interests as those who work at the hospital.

The hospital says nurses and administration should address concerns, and not an outside labor board.

The nurses will likely vote next month.
