Children's Hospital Will Screen Workers for Salmonella

By AP/KWMU

St. Louis, MO – St. Louis Children's Hospital is trying to find the source of a salmonella outbreak; part of that effort will include screening the 2,500 workers there.

At least six workers and five patients there have tested positive for the bacteria. They're recovering, but more than 100 others now have symptoms.

The hospital's cafeteria remains closed, even though health inspectors found no violations there.

Salmonella is blamed for 1,000 deaths every year and 40,000 cases of salmonellosis. The illness causes diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps.
