City of St. Louis pursues casino license

By Bill Raack, St. Louis Public Radio

St. Louis, MO – When the state's 13th casino license is up for grabs this summer, the city of St. Louis wants it to stay here.

The license becomes available on July 1st, after Pinnacle's President Casino on the downtown riverfront closes. The city's economic development agency announced Monday that it wants to hear from casino developers interested in building a facility somewhere along the Mississippi River.

"We're asking gaming companies to look at the riverfront adjacent to the river within the boundaries of the city of St. Louis. So, that could be anywhere along the riverfront," said Rodney Crim, executive director of the St. Louis Development Corporation.

The city has said it's concerned about losing the tax revenue it's been getting from The President if state regulators award the license to a developer elsewhere in the state.
