Washington, DC – The U.S. Corps of Engineers Tuesday night said it will ignore a federal judge's ruling and not reduce water levels on the Missouri River.
On Saturday, Judge Gladys Kessler ordered flows cut to protect endangered birds and fish.
But the Corps says that ruling conflicts with another recent ruling that was made in St. Louis that ordered higher water levels for barges.
The corps says it will begin talks with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service with the goal of creating a new 'master manual' for the river's flow by next spring.
The corps says the Bush administration will ask Congress for $42 million next year for an unprecedented effort to restore the Missouri River eco-system.
